I am a
huge fan of the Ring Series well except of course for the American version of
it.

All the actresses do excellent work in terms of building painfully relatable characters with relatively limited screen time. Aoi's role is small but significant. Her casting seems to be a result of her connection to Iwai, or to please Japanese investors.

Re: Vampire (Canada/Japan, 2011)

So the rest of the female characters are good too? I had only heard some opinions on Aoi's role, but I would probably be happy if Castle-Hughes, Cook, Plummer... and Kreuk (? she's not mentioned in the review xD) are decent in the film.

Re: End of the Night (Japan, 2011)

Thanks John! The song is called "Throw Them Away" (捨てろ) by the independent theater group Tenjo Sajiki. I believe it's featured in Shuji Terayama's film "Throw Away Your Books, Go Out Into the Streets". Terayama was also the leader of Tenjo Sajiki.

Re: The VCinema Show Episode 34: Art Theatre Guild, Part One

what is the song... i think it's the first break in the podcast. the psych-ish sounding song with the chanting. what is that song? and which movie is it in? thank you. i'm way behind on these podcasts but i'm enjoying them very much.

Re: My 2012 in Review: Adam H

This is a big

Re: Happy New Year from VCinema!

It has the fuku kanji of Fukushima. Nothing more. T_T

There are a portion of Internet memes in Taiwan and China which is related to Japanese otaku culture. This parody image is not an exception. I translated the tagline in my poor English in the safe way that you could know the difference.

At that time, I chose to inform you in Twitter because new comments in the old post might make you think these are spam replies.

It is rumored that lazy journalists in Taiwan take news on the Internet. Actually I don't know who first discovered this but I think it is sooooo important to let you know that your post get famous in Taiwan.

Re: Big in Taiwan: A Tale of Stepping in Internet Doodoo

挖 有魏藥耶

Re: Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale (Taiwan, 2011)

Thank you everyone for the messages pointing out the error. The image has been corrected and we apologize to anyone who may have been upset by the original. Please see the following article for an explanation of the situation: http://www.vcinemashow.com/?p=...

Re: In the Realm of the Senses (Japan, 1976)

Thanks, Claude! You would know. Please see my reply to the post above.

Re: In the Realm of the Senses (Japan, 1976)

Thanks for the message, Stan, but when Adam says that "Oshima went to France", he doesn't mean that Oshima literally went there and shot the film. "Go to", in this case, is a part of speech that means "turn to". As Claude states below, Oshima had to turn to France to have the film processed.

Re: In the Realm of the Senses (Japan, 1976)

Oshima did NOT go to France to make In the Realm of the Senses. He shot it in Japan. but it was a coproduction between France and Japan. France had recently removed all restrictions on pornography, so it was de ided to label it as a French film. Oshima was then able to maintain a closed set and to not have to accommodate the Japanese press. Also, he was not prosecuted for the movie, but for publishing the scenario for the film. For that he was acquitted, as you say. The single disc from The Criterion Collection has some very informative extras as well as an outstanding booklet with one essay by Japanese film scholar emeritus Donald Richie and one by Oshima himself.

Re: In the Realm of the Senses (Japan, 1976)

Sorry, but if you want to be totally accurate, Realm of the Senses was actually shot in Japan.
